SAMPLE TRIP ITINERARY

(subject to change due to factors such as lodging availability, restaurant availability and ferry schedules)

Day 1 - Cycle San Juan Island Loop

We will meet you at our shop in Friday Harbor located at 40 Spring Street, just steps from the ferry terminal and shuttle you to our starting point, just outside of town. Your guide will give a safety lesson and help you get familiar with the bicycles. We then cycle to San Juan Valley Road; a quiet country road surrounded by farmland. We will take a break at a Lavender Farm where you can take photos of as you stroll the lavender filled hillside. You can learn about the many ways to use lavender and taste a few edible foods at their farm.

We then head to Whale Watch Park for a delicious picnic lunch prepared by your guide. Afterwards, you can hike to a lighthouse and to a beautiful beach with tide pools to explore. We then cycle north, visiting an Alpaca Farm and an English garden at British Camp.

Later this afternoon we will head to Roche Harbor for an afternoon coffee or ice cream and walk the docks of its beautiful marina. Roche Harbor is a quaint village with artist kiosks to check out, English gardens to explore, a sculpture park to walk through, and a very unique mausoleum for the adventurous. Before heading back toward town, we explore the scenic roads of White Point. We will cycle along a narrow country road to the shores of Westcott Bay to visit the San Juan Island Distillery and Westcott Bay Shellfish Co. Here you can relax on the bay and enjoy local oysters and cold beverages at these favorite island destinations. Afterwards, you can cycle back to Friday Harbor or catch a ride in our van before we get you checked in to your inn.

Day 2

Go Sea Kayaking or Whale Watching

This morning we will either shuttle you to the beautiful Westside of San Juan Island for a day of sea kayaking, or you may choose to go on a whale watch wildlife cruise aboard the Odyssey.

The day of kayaking includes a kayak safety lesson before you begin paddling along the evergreen cloaked coastline. As we journey down the coast, we'll stop for lunch along a beach where you can search for creatures in the tide pools, look for sea glass among the pebbles or simply soak in the scenery. After lunch we will head back out on the water in search of orcas and eagles.

If you choose the whale watch cruise, you can spend the afternoon cruising the San Juan Islands. Sit back and relax in comfort as the personable onboard naturalists share their depth of knowledge on the local whales and wildlife. A picnic lunch prepared by your guide will be served while you are on the boat. Afterwards, your guide will bring you back to Friday Harbor. Tonight, you will have time to explore town on your own.

* Please Note: Dinner on this night of this trip is not included in the price of the tour.

Day 3

Cycle Orcas Island

Today we will hop onto the ferry to Orcas Island, where we will cycle along the wildflower lined country roads headed towards West Harbor. The road eventually leads inland taking us along the edge of Crow Valley which sits at the base of Turtleback Mountain. Along the way we’ll check out Orcas Island Pottery where you can find beautiful and unique pottery handcrafted by local artists.

Once in Eastsound (a small village), your guides will prepare a fresh and delicious lunch. There will be a little extra time afterwards to explore the shops and sites of Eastsound. From here we cycle along to Moran State Park. As Washington's first state park, this area offers a variety of activities. You can hike down to a waterfall where you can cool off or you can go for a swim in crisp mountain lakes. If you feel strong in mind and body you can cycle the 5.5 mile climb to the summit of Mount Constitution or you can call it a day and climb in the van for a ride to the top. At 2,407 feet, the summit of Mount Constitution is the highest point in the San Juan Islands and offers spectacular views of Mount Baker to the east and the San Juan Archipelago in all directions. We then will head to the inn to check-in and get ready for dinner.

Day 4

Cycle Lopez Island

Wake up and then take the ferry to Lopez Island. It takes about 40 minutes to travel around Shaw Island to Lopez. Keep an eye out for whales, seals, eagles and even swimming deer! We start cycling at the ferry landing and are quickly see views of the majestic Olympic Mountains. Our first stop will be in the small village of Lopez. This is a good place to grab a morning coffee or a freshly baked pastry from the amazing Holly B's Bakery.

We cycle along the shore of Fisherman Bay and head out to Otis Perkins County Park to enjoy the birds and scenery of one the longest beaches in the San Juan Islands. Continue the quiet country roads toward Shark Reef County Park for a scenic walk and picnic lunch. While your guide prepares lunch, take a walk to the water's edge. The trail brings you through a beautiful forest and pops you out on the rocky southwest shore looking over turbulent Cattle Pass toward San Juan Island and the Olympic Mountains. You may spot several harbor seals on Shark Reef, the park's namesake.

Stop at Agate beach to enjoy the views of the Iceberg Islands and a classic northwest pebble beach. Explore this beautiful beach loaded with perfect skipping rocks. If time allows, make the walk to Iceberg Point, it is one of the most beautiful places on Lopez Island. To finish the bike route, we head north, through the center of Lopez Island to Spencer Spit. Here you will find a state park with a sandy beach, interpretive displays, and a marsh lagoon to check out. Cycle past the quiet northern bays and a witness plentiful waterfowl. The last stretch of your trip brings you back to the Lopez Island ferry landing to say your goodbyes before your next adventure begins.
